Training in East Sussex
GP training in East Sussex takes place over 3 years (full-time equivalent). ST1-2 posts last 4 months and can include placements in a combination of: General practice, medicine (including cardiology and elderly care), emergency medicine (A&E), psychiatry, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology. Within some GP posts there are opportunities for integrated placements (ITPs), which include a variety of settings including palliative care.
As a GP trainee, you are assigned a clinical supervisor for each post, as well as an educational supervisor (GP Trainer) who can guide you through your training.
ST3 posts last 12 months (full-time equivalent) and take place in a GP surgery attached to your educational supervisor.
Alongside the clinical posts there is regular GP training sessions. These typically take place on a Thursday afternoon and are currently being held remotely via Microsoft Teams or Zoom. These sessions are held by the programme directors (PDs), with each trainee being part of a PD group – similar to a tutor group.
